Here are a few cases that I have experienced. Some are mine, some are cases with which I
am (or was) intimately associated (but was not the treating homeopath), and some are
just cases described by friends. Take them for what they are: anecdotal evidence.
The anecdotal evidence presented here has a variety of qualities that make a very strong
case for the principles of homeopathy, specifically the Law of Cure.
A friend of mine visited a homeopath in 1997. He was in his twenties,
and had been suffering from a sickness resembling from a fatigue for approximately
four months, which began with a positive mono diagnosis. His crude symptoms
(by this I mean symptoms suitable for diagnosing an illness) included: non-restful
sleep (wakes after a night
of sleep feeling as if he had not slept at all), inability to concentrate,
frequent headaches, nightsweats (2-3 per month), extreme tiredness without significant
exertion (e.g. getting exhausted after walking 5 city blocks), frequent sore throats,
and mouth ulcers (at one point, a doctor counted 12).
Prior to his sickness, he was a very funny person who enjoyed talking constantly about
intellectual ideas and never doing anything. He enjoyed lying on the couch and
watching television (4-5 hours per day, if he could). He had a bit of a paranoid
streak as well. His main physical symptom was constipation, with hard, rock like stools
1-2 times per week.
As a boy (ages 5-11), he was physically active, thin, smart, and talkative.
At age nine, he developed terrible eczema all over his shins, with thick crusts. It was
so bad that the doctors recommended that he medicate them with bacitracin and
moisturizers and some other creams and wrap them in Saran Wrap each night. The rash
subsequently disappeared, and about a month later, he broke out with smaller areas of
a similar rash covering his entire body. This was successfully treated with
hydrocortisone cream.
At age 12, his grandfather (a very dear relative) became acutely ill and went into a
nursing home. He went for an eye exam, and his vision (formerly 20/20) had deteriorated.
He was prescribed glasses for myopia (near-sightedness).
At age thirteen his grandfather died. This
was a major trauma for the boy, as they were very close.
Prior to this experience, he frequently cried. After the death of his grandfather, he
did not cry for about 9 years. Also, around this time, he received a typhoid vaccination.
It was the only vaccination that he remembered receiving, because he had a srong "dead arm"
sensation for about two days after the shot.
He started taking a remedy, once a day (6c potency). He continued taking this same remedy
for 4 years, moving from lower potencies to higher potencies. His chronic fatigue symptoms
(which had already improved greatly in the month prior to taking the remedy due to a change
in attitude) did not return, and have not returned to this day.
The first thing that he noticed when on the remedy was that he started having regular
bowel movements 5-7 times a week. They were no longer rock-like and did not require such an
effort either. This was a drastic change from before. He also felt
calmer and more settled. About two months into taking the remedy, he visited his former
college and saw an old acquaintance. She commented that he appeared less "shady" than he
had in the past.
He developed eczema on his forearms, which he did not treat. Things steadily progressed in
his life, with no new illnesses. He seemed to have more energy, and was more able to feel
good.
About three years after starting the remedy, he developed the symptom of waking each
morning with intense nausea. This lasted a few hours each morning, and was not relieved
by vomiting. After about 6 months of this, he was overcome by a very strong desire to
lie down and cry. He went into his room, and he lied down and proceeded to cry for
several hours. While crying, he was flooded with feelings about the sickness and death of
his grandfather, and suddenly had great insight into parts of the experience that he
had never thought of previously. His nausea cleared up after this.
In the same week that this happened, he awoke one morning to a terrible dead-arm sensation
in his left arm. He could not think of why he would have such a sensation, and was
aware that it felt very similar to the feeling after receiving his typhoid
vaccination.
Not long after this, he no longer had symptoms of the remedy, and he stopped treatment.
At this point, his overall energy was much greater than before. He enjoyed spending
his time driving and walking around (as opposed to on the couch). He had spots of
eczema on his forearms and lower legs.
Analysis: This case illustrates the
Law of Cure quite
well. Overall, the patient went from being an active boy to a less active young man. Once on
the remedy, he was brought (over nearly four years) into a more active state. This is
an example of the returning to a prior, healthier, condition. The
experiencing of emotions generated from his past experience (the death of his
grandfather), along with the experiencing of physical sensations (the sensations
from the typhoid vaccination) from this same period in time, are a very striking
example of the return of old symptoms. The return of the eczema also would be
expected, and considered a positive development.
More cases will be added in October, 2006.

responsible for the discovery and development of homeopathy, located in
our nation's capitol.
